UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHERS
Olivia KonsdorfOlivia is an EEO major and Geography minor from Owosso, MI. Olivia was awarded a student-led research grant from the Undergraduate Research program at SVSU for the spring and summer 2024. Olivia's primary research interest lies in the conservation of both bee and non-bee pollinators. Specifically, she aims to develop a pipeline for studying bee environmental DNA (eDNA) derived from specimen collections at the SVSU insect collection. By analyzing insect DNA data and examining pollen found in the pollen-carrying bodily structures (such as scopa or corbicula), Olivia hopes to unravel the intricate host-pollinator associations that have developed over the past few decades in the Great Lakes region.

PAST LAB MEMBERS
Guido Galarza: Guido joined the lab for three months as a visiting scholar from Ecuador. Guido's research focused on the characterization of the whitefly microbiome across an altitudinal gradient in Ecuador.
Clayton Robinson: Clayton set up a collection of local Japanese beetles to explore their microbiomes.
Samantha Igaz: While in the lab, Samantha became skilled at extracting DNA from tiny insects, a critical skill for studying their microbiomes.
